Local Micro Brewery in Ebensburg
Coal Country Brewing is a local micro brewery in Ebensburg PA. This delightful brewery opened in June of 2018 and has been thriving since. A visitor to this brewery has multiple beers, some local wines from B & L Winery, and a couple of homemade sodas so choose from.
Founder and Brew Master Mike Kutchman and his family have put in countless hours, and it shows. As a result of their hard work and dedication they’ve created a unique local, family-owned and operated business. After much trial and error they have made an art of beer making.
Micro Brewery Environment:
Every visitor feels welcome in this family friendly environment. They have a tasting bar that can fit up to fourteen people. A couple high tables and several low tables provide plenty of seating. This year they moved into the space next door creating more seating for larger parties and indoor music events.
One interesting feature that can be found at Coal Country is their “Pay It Forward Board”. The idea is that a patron can buy a drink for someone else who is not present. This could be a specific person or it could be someone who fits a category. So a coal miner, fire fighter, veteran, police officer or an EMT may be listed. Anyone who works or serves in these fields can collect a drink already paid for.
Towns in the Cambria County and other surrounding areas have a long history of coal mining. Mike has tapped into this crucial aspect of our local history to craft an environment that honors this history and the people involved with it. Coal mining equipment and photos decorate the walls of this micro brewery in Ebensburg.
The tasting bar has an interesting surface. The creators used coal pieces and a clear epoxy to create a flat and unique surface.
The Micro Brews and Food:
This local micro brewery focuses on quality and supporting local business. As such, they acquire many of the ingredients from local farmers. And then these ingredients are brewed on site to create some delicious beer.
Each beer has a name that ties into the coal history and local colloquialisms. For example: Jagger Bush, Sulphur Crick, Tipple and Coal Dust are a few. They update their tap list weekly on their Facebook page.
At the moment, Coal Country does not supply their own food. But they are looking into it. Until they are able to make their own, they allow patrons to bring in their own food. Many weekends feature food trucks and local homemade meals for people to purchase.
If you would like to visit this quaint local micro brewery you can find them at 625 W. High Street, Ebensburg. They have a Facebook page that they update frequently with tap lists, hours and events. They also have a website. I’ve mentioned Coal Country in a previous post when I was in town for Dickens of a Christmas. I had a nice apple ale on that visit.
